The Business Life Project
Distilled from more than a decade
of hands-on workplace ministry, this
strategy involves:
- bringing together Australian believers
in the workplace;
- forming Business Life Teams in Key
Centres and;
- through personal witness and running
the Business Alpha course, winning
people to and discipling them for
Christ; and
- partnering with other like-minded
workplace ministries to maximise the
impact of the Business Life Project.
The Business Life Project
approach is set out in detail, with
definitions and methodologies designed
to provide a framework to intentionally
reach our workplaces with the lifechanging
message of the Gospel of Jesus
Christ. Whilst this framework is detailed
and prescriptive in that it covers the
outworking of the National Vision, it is
obviously capable of adaptation to local
contexts.
More on the Business Life Project
Across Australia a steady awakening is
taking place as Australian believers in
businesses and commercial organisations
are, perhaps, more than ever before,
seeking to help their colleagues, friends
and associates to come to know Jesus
Christ.
This 'movement' is evidenced by the
number of Christian ministry initiatives
that have sprung up over the last ten
years.

"Across Australia ... believers in
Businesses ... are seeking to help
their colleagues, friends and
associates to come to know
Jesus Christ."

Examples among the many are:
the Bible Society's 'Business Bible',
special chaplains in the workplace,
networking organisations like
Australian Marketplace Connections and the
Christian Business Network. Books like
Thank God It's Monday (written by Mark Greene) and
Anointed for Business (by Ed Silvoso)
have been pivotal and leaders
of many denominations have been
calling for more expressions of Christian
life and values in the apparent spiritual
desert of the secular world of business.
While it is true that there have been
marketplace ministries for some years
in Australia, over the last ten years we
have noticed that the conduct of the
Alpha Course in a business or workplace
context has been one of the most fruitful
endeavours in actually bringing people
into a saving knowledge of God through
Christ.
As a result of the last decade's spiritual
labours a growing body of active
believers has emerged who wish to
intentionally engage with non-believers
in the workplace. They want to share the
Gospel with them using the Business
Alpha platform and their personal
witness. They, then, want to help those
who come to Christ to go on to grow in
grace and become committed members
of an appropriate local church.
To get this done, Christians across this
continent are spontaneously calling for
Business Alpha or Alpha in the Workplace
courses to be run in their offices,
boardrooms and factories and workshops.
Three factors have been established to
make this Vision come to pass:
-
believers have been praying
personally and in groups for their work
mates and their associates so that
there will be an openness to explore
the questions of life through the Alpha
initiative, something that many non-believing
people in this dying culture
are increasingly keen to do;
-
believers have been working in unity,
regardless of denominational
background, to see people respond to
the Gospel, experience the power of
the Holy Spirit and become obedient
to the Word of God;
-
as part of the whole plan, believers
have been forming teams, Business Life
Teams, to run Business Alpha
successfully - a competency which
has included helping new believers to
become disciples of Jesus.
(Becoming a Disciple of Jesus, is designed as one
resource to help new Christians to grow.)

or workplace context has been one of the most

We are delighted that this 'movement'
which is taking shape either
independently or under the banner of
the Business Life Network is attracting
the support of people at all levels in the
business world and in the work place.
There is recognition that the Alpha
Course, although not the only resource
available, is attracting increasing and
widespread support and has shown
a resilience and a staying power that
testifies to the power of God being at
work through the course.
But the real key is to be found in the
fact that there is a general stirring
orchestrated by the Holy Spirit in the
marketplace encouraging Christians
to reach out to people in their world ...
the world of their office, canteen, sales
department, factory or plant. And this
'reaching out' is culminating in a harvest
of souls, gradual at first but increasing in
number year by year to the glory of our
Heavenly Father.
We ask you to become part of this
movement to reach Australia for Christ
in the world of work. Your participation
whether as a leader, a business partner,
team member or investor all counts and
will make a difference to the future of our
nation and our people.

Yours in Christ,
